Castreasure: A New Upcycled Material Unveiled at Expo 2025 Osaka “MOF FES.”
On June 15, 2025, SyncMOF, a startup from Nagoya University, in collaboration with Chuo Malleable Iron Co., Ltd., officially unveiled a new gas adsorption material, “Castreasure,” at MOF FES. – Turning CO₂ into a Hero, part of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
Developed using byproducts—previously considered industrial waste—from metal casting processes, Castreasure is a next-generation, eco-friendly upcycled material capable of adsorbing and desorbing gases such as carbon dioxide (CO₂).
🔍 The Meaning Behind the Name
Cast (casting) × Treasure = Castreasure
The name reflects our core philosophy: giving new value to discarded materials and transforming them into “treasures that help save the planet.”
■ A New Approach to Material Innovation for Environmental Solutions
SyncMOF and Chuo Malleable Iron have worked together to breathe new life into byproducts from industrial processes. By combining advanced MOF (Metal-Organic Framework) technology with waste-derived materials, we aim to contribute to the realization of a more sustainable future.
This achievement is expected to serve as a model case for how industries can be reborn by converting waste into high-value functional materials—and is drawing strong interest at Expo 2025 Osaka.
Currently, Castreasure is being exhibited at “MOF FES. – Turning CO₂ into a Hero”, where it is presented to the world as a symbol of innovation and sustainability.
