On June 15, 2025, “MOF FES. – CO₂ Becomes a Hero”, held on a special stage at the Osaka-Kansai Expo, was prominently featured in the Yomiuri Shimbun.
The event showcased a variety of interactive experiences for the general public featuring Syllego, a cutting-edge wearable CO₂ capture device utilizing Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs). Through activities such as karaoke competitions, sports, and art, the event introduced a new model of social implementation: “capturing CO₂ while having fun.”
Participants wearing Syllego were able to adsorb CO₂ in real time from both exhaled breath and the surrounding atmosphere. The collected CO₂ was then used to create carbonated hot spring baths.
Over 1,000 people participated in the event, which fostered a shift in perspective—viewing CO₂ not as a waste product, but as a valuable resource. The event also generated interest from corporate sponsors, some of whom expressed their intent to explore further applications of MOF technologies.
Going forward, SyncMOF, in collaboration with Nagoya University COI-NEXT, will continue to accelerate the social and industrial implementation of MOF technologies.
